Museum of Friends Announces our Fall and Winter Exhibit: Tom Vail & Jann Vail, Shared Journey

Walsenburg, CO — The Museum of Friends (MoF) is honored to present Tom Vail & Jann Vail: Shared Journey, a retrospective exhibition celebrating the life, love, and artistic collaboration of Tom and the late Jann Vail. The exhibit will open on October 18, 2025 and remain on view through March 15, 2026 at the Museum of Friends in downtown Walsenburg, Colorado.

The Vails’ creative partnership spanned more than five decades, beginning 57 years ago when Tom and Jann first met at his mother’s ceramic studio outside La Veta, CO. Their journey took them to Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area, where they worked as artists immersed in a vibrant cultural scene, before returning to Huerfano County to raise their three daughters and nurture their artistic practice within the region’s unique landscape and community.

“Jann and I both believed that the greatest joy in our life is the expression of our art,” said Tom Vail. “We shared our love of art and music, and I hope visitors enjoy this show while also participating in the rich art community here in Huerfano County.”

The exhibition will feature a range of the couple’s works that reflect their shared passion for creativity, connection, and community. This showing also serves as a heartfelt tribute to Jann’s artistic legacy following her recent passing.

An opening reception will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, from 5–7 PM, with light refreshments and live music performed by Huerfano Winds, a local ensemble made up of John Mall High School alumni. Community members and visitors are invited to attend.
