Discussing Patterns and Spaces by Liz Quisgard

Please join Maria Cocchiarelli on Saturday May 7th at 2 pm to gain an insight into the work of artist Liz Whitney Quisgard. Quisgard’s exhibit Patterns and Spaces will be on view through July 30th.

Her sculptures, paintings and fiber works are intricately painted or designed with repetitions. Some paintings were created in 1978 while some of the “fiber works” are more recent. Quisgard is 95 years old and continues to create in her studio that borders China Town and Little Italy in New York City.

Liz commented that “my work is totally decorative. It has no meaning beyond ‘what you see is what you get.’ And I’d like people to say that I make the term ‘decorative’ not only respectable but admired…The visual arts are exactly that: visual. No meanings, no preachments, no symbols.”

We will explore Quisgard’s philosophy in relation to contemporary art that is sometimes loaded with meaning.

Light refreshments will be served.

Please call 719-738-2858 for more info.

The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 am until 5 pm.
