A Celebration of Creativity, Innovation, and Regional Connection
Walsenburg, CO – The 2nd Annual Huerfano Maker Convention will take place on Saturday, July 19, 2025, from 10 AM to 4 PM at the Huerfano County Community Center, 928 Russell Street in Walsenburg. This free, all-ages event invites the public to explore what’s possible when creativity, technology, and community come together.
Part celebration and part community activation, the Maker Convention is a creative placemaking and cross-sector collaboration initiative that uplifts Huerfano County’s growing network of artists, makers, educators, and entrepreneurs — while inviting participation and connection from across the broader Southern Colorado region.
With a focus on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics), the event features a vibrant maker market, live demonstrations, hands-on workshops, and collaborative art experiences designed to spark curiosity, expand creative networks, and foster shared growth among neighboring communities.
"This isn’t just a market," said one of the event coordinators, Heather R. Hernandez. "It’s a space where rural creativity and innovation meet — and where new relationships across art, education, tech, and small business can help shape the future we want to live in."
Event highlights include:
Maker Market: Shop handmade goods, creative tools, and inventive products from local artists, crafters, and small businesses.
Live Demonstrations: Experience laser cutting, VR, and hands-on maker stations that showcase the tools and talents behind today’s creative tech and design.
Workshops: Free creative writing and mixed media workshops for adults, plus a kid-friendly STEM Lab.
Community Art Projects: Join in collaborative art experiences that invite storytelling, creativity, and public engagement.
The Maker Convention is produced through a partnership between the Museum of Friends, Spanish Peaks Library District, Wheelhouse Makerspace, Huerfano Arts & Leadership Connection (HALC), and the Fox Theatre, with support from local businesses, volunteers, and civic organizations.
