2018 End of year thanks

Dear Community Member and Potential Donor of the Museum of Friends, Thank you for your efforts to promote Huerfano County with your dedication and vision.  The Museum of Friends has provided cultural opportunities never before available to Huerfano County and has helped to attract businesses to the Downtown.  Livable communities that attract new residents and businesses have offerings that celebrate their cultural resources.  Southern Colorado and Huerfano County’s cultural resources are unique in that artists have moved here for many decades to capture its beauty in paint, word and deed.  It is only with the support of our fellow visionaries that MoF’s mission to help create these opportunities for our community will grow and prosper. As a community member, you will be proud of the new exhibits coming to Huerfano County.  Opening on Earth Day, April 22, 2019 is a traveling exhibition from the Colorado Plein Air Association that will be promoted during the Most Endangered Places Conference in Denver in February.  We are planning to host interesting public and educational programs that will elevate the visual appeal of Walsenburg with Plein Air Painters interpreting unique and beautiful scenes that will promote a positive image of this town.  During the big tourist season our blockbuster show “Women Printmakers” opens on July 4, 2019 on loan from the University of Boulder.  MoF’s educational outreach programs continue to transform our children’s lives through creative and supportive programs from pre-school through high school creating an environment to inspire and support our children’s enrichment.  Our educational offerings have expanded and include Pro-Social Sobriety and Self Awareness with the Probation Department; Post-Visit Art Classes in the Classroom; and a new STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) after-school program to begin in 2019. Membership and donor dollars enabled us to offer the following exhibits in 2018: Architectural Drawings and Restoration Plans for the Roof & Dick building; Mixing it Up with visiting sculptor Scott Pfaffman; the Libre 50th Anniversary Celebration exhibit with public programs at the Fox Theatre (this show opened to an eager crowd of over 130 attendees in the midst of the Spring Creek Fire); Ancestors - El Dia de Los Muertos Annual Exhibit, dance, and music celebration; and the “Market Place of Ideas” a celebration of the unique and creative Huerfano County art and craft makers.  As an anchor to Downtown development, MoF has proven to stimulate the economy by attracting visitors who contribute to keep local hotels, restaurants, and shops profitable with added tax revenue throughout Huerfano County. As a unique model for our community, this yearend appeal may be MoF’s most important in the last 13 years.  We are counting on you to visit and reacquaint yourself with MoF’s programs and exhibitions.  Please see enclosure to mail your donation back or visit the social media platform Colorado Gives Day on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 to donate: https://www.coloradogives.org/cogivesday/nonprofitToolkit or at the Go Fund Me webpage to support the Audio Tour https://www.gofundme.com/museum-of-friends-needs-your-help of our permanent collection; and our vetting by visiting GuideStar at https://www.guidestar.org/profile/26-1202774 that demonstrates transparency in our operations. Would you please share these sites with your email address book to show how Huerfano County and Walsenburg are thriving?  If you are unable to make a monetary contribution, please contact Maria to discuss volunteerism.   Best regards and best wishes for a happy and healthy New Year with bright beginnings, Sincerely, Maria Cocchiarelli-Berger and Brendt Berger
